Giving Local Governments the Re-Boot
Improving the financial sustainability of local governments
In the two decades from 1995 to 2015, local governments in Australia experience a fourfold increase in expenditure. But in the same time, an increase in revenues did not occur. For local governments to continue to provide the services the community demands, they must have the ability to raise sufficient revenue. This report explores options for local government reform in Australia to meet the funding shortfall.
