McKell Institute Victoria announces new Executive Director

The McKell Institute has appointed Rebecca Thistleton as its new Executive Director for Victoria.

Rebecca was previously Director, Policy and Communications, for Cladding Safety Victoria. She has been a media manager and senior policy advisor for the Andrews Government and was Labor’s candidate for Melbourne in the 2022 state election.

Rebecca began her career as a journalist, working for the former Fairfax community papers and for the Australian Financial Review.

I’m excited to work for an organisation exploring progressive ideas because progressive policy delivers change.”
“McKell’s work starts conversations and sparks vital policy creativity, and I look forward to expanding the institute’s work across Victoria.”

The McKell Institute CEO, Michael Buckland, said Rebecca’s experience in media, government and public policy would help to grow the progressive research institute’s Victorian presence.

This appointment follows previous Victorian Executive Director Ryan Batchelor’s election to the Victorian Legislative Council. Rebecca started working with the McKell Institute last week.
