McKell Institute launches new branch, McKell SA/NT, at Adelaide Town Hall.

The McKell Institute launches new branch — McKell Institute SA/NT.

The McKell Institute has officially launched its new branch, McKell Institute SA/NT, at an event at the Adelaide Town Hall on 27 March, 2024.

The new branch was launched by South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, in front of over 100 community, union, business and civil society leaders, as well as notable guests, including Attorney General Kyam Maher, former Premier Mike Rann, and a number of Members of the South Australian Parliament.

“We have to make sure that all of the opportunity we have in South Australia doesn’t just translate to growing wealth — but translates to growing wealth amongst as many people as possible, particularly those who have been dislocated from it in the past”, said Premier Peter Malinauskas.

“The establishment of the McKell Institute in South Australia probably comes as one of the most timely choices McKell has made’, Premier Malinauskas said.

McKell Institute CEO, Ed Cavanough, said the organisation’s establishment in South Australia was the “natural next step for McKell” — an important milestone in the Institute’s journey towards becoming a truly national public policy organisation, informed by communities on the ground right across the country.

McKell Institute SA/NT will be led by Executive Director, Dr. Gemma Beale.

Dr. Beale earned a PhD on Industrial Relations, through a project examining the human fallout of the Holden closure in Adelaide.

Having recently returned from the Northern Territory, Dr. Beale noted that “McKell SA/NT will be able to give Northern Territory a bigger role in the national policy conversation”.

McKell SA/NT will be located on Carrington St, Adelaide.
