Keeping Connected: Exploring Pathways for Flexibility and Income Retaining Employment Relationships for Workers Living with Canver in NSW

This report examines the employment challenges faced by people living with cancer in New South Wales and outlines practical policy reforms to help more people remain connected to work during treatment. While cancer survival rates continue to improve, many workers leave the workforce unnecessarily due to inadequate workplace flexibility, financial pressures and inconsistent employer support.
The report estimates that around 3,000 people each year exit the workforce prematurely, costing NSW more than $240 million in lost wages annually. It recommends a suite of reforms, including wage support, payroll tax incentives, expanded flexible work provisions, employer education and integrated return-to-work planning, to improve workforce participation and reduce the economic and social impacts of cancer.
