The consequences of reduced public holiday penalty rates on Labour Day and Grand Final weekend

On the Grand Final and Labour Day public holidays in Queensland, New South Wales, ACT, Victoria and South Australia, award-reliant workers in the retail, fast food, hospitality and pharmacy sectors will work their first public holiday with reduced penalty rates. This report estimates that these workers stand to collectively lose between $4.735 and $9.5 million in income over the Grand Final / Labour Day weekend as a direct result of the Fair Work Commission’s penalty rate decision.
